The Pinehurst Avenue Waiting Room was a small trolley shelter on the north corner of Boston Road and Pinehurst Avenue in Pinehurst, where passengers waited for the street cars that ran along Boston Road between Billerica and Woburn. A postcard of 1921 titled "Pinehurst Ave" shows it as a little one-story building with a hipped roof and a porch across its front, set behind a fence on the corner lot, with a bungalow beyond it on Pinehurst Avenue.
The corner is lots 95 and 96 of Pinehurst Manor, the house-lot development laid out in 1910 on the west part of the old F. Carter House (Plan Book 27, Plan 95). The county's 1916 plan of Boston Road still shows the corner lots empty, held by James E. Burke, trustee for the Pinehurst Manor owners, with James J. Battcock's house two lots to the north. On May 1, 1916 Burke sold the two lots to Albert L. and Annie Weston of Pinehurst, and when Albert Lewis Weston sold them to Lena V. Elliott of Lynn in December 1918 the deed passed the lots "and Buildings thereon", so the waiting room was built between 1916 and 1918. In April 1920 Mrs. Elliott sold the corner "with buildings thereon" to Harry F. and Veda M. Jollymore of Billerica, whose deed bounds it westerly by "the State Road so called leading from Woburn to Billerica".
The Jollymore family kept the corner for more than fifty years. From 1941 their son Richard H. Jollymore ran the Pinehurst Ice Company from the corner, advertised as at "Cor. Boston Rd. & Pinehurst Ave.", before moving it to his own place at 811 Boston Road about 1950. In 1972 their heirs sold it for $20,500 to Penny's Cleaners Inc., which already had the lots to the north, and in 1996 the company sold the five lots together. The present garage on the combined lot dates from about 1997.
