Allendale Avenue runs north from Chesterfield Avenue through Pinehurst Manor in Pinehurst, parallel to Boston Road and one block east of it, crossing Egmont, Pinehurst, Dorset, Cardington and Beaumont Avenues to McHugh Avenue. It was laid out as "Allandale" Avenue on the plan "Pinehurst Manor, Billerica, Mass., Owned By Frank W. Coughlin," drawn by H. A. Millhouse, civil engineer, and dated at Boston in September 1910 (Plan Book 27, Plan 95), and the 1925 plan of electric light poles on the unaccepted streets of Pinehurst Manor (Plan Book 47, Plan 64) still spells it "Allandale."

The name is one of the English sounding names the developer gave the streets of Pinehurst Manor, with Beaumont, Cardington, Chesterfield, Dorsett, Egmont, Ellingwood, Montrose and Endleigh; no record explains it or connects it with a Billerica person. The 1916 directory has "Allandale Avenue from Boston rd easterly," the 1919 directory "Allendale Avenue from Chesterfield ave northerly," and the town reports used both spellings until about 1942, after which Allendale became the usual form.

A water main was laid in the street in 1929, the same year the town engineer, making a plan of part of "Allandale Ave." for approval, found that the plans of the accepted streets around it "did not contain sufficient information to define the lines on the ground." The town was slow to accept it. Articles to accept 700 feet from Pinehurst Avenue to Cardington Avenue (dismissed 1930) and 280 feet north of Cardington Avenue (dismissed 1934) failed, but on February 9, 1935 the town voted to accept "Allendale Ave., a distance of three hundred feet." Articles for the part between Beaumont and McHugh Avenues were dismissed in 1939 and 1940, and one for the part between Cardington and Dorsett Avenues was referred to the Planning Board in 1942. The town accepted the laying out of about 700 feet more on March 13, 1954, voting $750 to improve it, and a further 500 feet on March 12, 1955, voting $475. The street was graveled for 250 feet in 1935, scraped, rolled and oiled in 1940, and hot topped with bituminous concrete in 1975. It was not on the official town map of 1831 and was not among the roads accepted in 2016.
