The Austin Perry Building was built as a funeral home and dwelling for Austin Perry (1908–1989) and Florence Winifred Perry (b.1902) in 1939. Austin Perry acquired the property from Alice McElman, who lived in the neighboring Matthew McElman House at 362 Boston Road, in 1939. According to the deed recording the transfer, the property was vacant; a single-family dwelling had stood on the property in the late nineteenth century, but it had been demolished by 1938. Perry worked as an undertaker and operated his business out of the building, where he also lived with Florence and their son Jack Perry (b. 1933). Perry retained ownership until 1964, when he sold the property to Esther S. and Thomas O’Flaherty.
