Billerica Terrace is a small neighborhood in South Billerica on Concord Road (Route 4) at the Bedford line, around Dean Street, Birch Street, Apple Street and Field Street. The plan, "Billerica Terrace, Bedford and Billerica, Mass.," dated September 11, 1913 and drawn by P. E. Silverman, civil engineer, of 749 Old South Building, Boston, was recorded on January 3, 1914 (Plan Book 31, Plan 37). A key map on the plan shows its place near the new Boston and Maine car shops and the Bedford and Billerica stations.
Most of the tract lay in Bedford, north of the Boston and Lowell Railroad, on Rand, Field, Green, Knoll, High, Lark, Neal, Mail, Short, Oak and Pine Streets. In Billerica, on the land of C. T. Kimball west of North Road, as Concord Road is called on the plan, it laid out Elm, Dean, Cable, Birch and Apple Streets, with Field and Green Streets on the other side of the road, in lots of about 2,500 square feet. The land had come to Edith Noyes Kimball in April 1911 as a single tract of about 31 acres, partly in each town.
The Billerica streets were slow to fill. The 1919 directory lists Birch Street and "Apple Road" running from Concord Road to the Bedford line, the oldest house on Birch Street dates from about 1917, and Cable Street was never built. Elm Street became Black Raven Road in the renaming of duplicate street names in 1988.
