Buehler Brook

Buehler Brook

Buehler Brook is a brook in the north part of Bedford, in the part of old Billerica that became Bedford in 1729. It flows from Great Buehler Pond and Little Buehler Pond in the Buehler Ponds Conservation Area, runs south for a quarter mile and then west and northwest through woods and wetland for about a mile, and joins Mill Brook near Dudley Road, close to the Billerica line. Mill Brook carries its water north past Dudley Road, where Captain John Stearns had a saw mill about 1680 and Seward S. Chase ran a shingle mill in the 1870s, to the Concord River.

The brook takes its name from the ponds, and they from Buehler Road nearby; no older name for the stream has been found. The town of Bedford bought the 6.4-acre heart of the Buehler Ponds Conservation Area in 1978 with State Self-Help funds and received an adjoining three acres as a gift in 1987, and the town's trail map shows a vernal pool and wetland along the brook.
