Jonathan Hill, the original proprietor of the machine shop, died in 1870. His first cousin once removed, Charles Henry Hill succeeded him and built this elegant residence around that time. This is one of five Mansard houses built in Billerica within about five years.

Charles Henry had three wives and six children. His surviving daughter Margaret Elizabeth, died in 1944 in Salem, MA, but had lived in the house alone until just a few years prior. She was likely the last Hill descendant of the name in Billerica.

After her death, Frank Galvin bought the property and used it as a residence and an avocational farm.

On December 4, 2005, the house was destroyed by fire. The residents escaped without injury.
