Mother Sarah Osgood

Christopher Whiting was the youngest of the Billerica soldiers who died in the Revolution. He was born on November 25, 1761, a son of Timothy Whiting and Sarah Osgood. His father had served in the French war of 1755 and was on the Billerica tax list from 1765 to 1775, living before and after in Lancaster. His father and his older brothers Timothy and John turned out on April 19, 1775 and joined in the fight along the road from Concord; John served under Arnold on Lake Champlain in 1776 and rose to be a colonel in the army after the war.

Hazen's list of Billerica soldiers places Christopher among the men who served in 1776. He died at Ticonderoga on November 10, 1776, at fourteen, "in the service of his country," as the town record has it.

His name is on the Revolutionary War plaque that the Billerica Historical Society placed on the Meeting House Site Memorial on the Town Common in 2001 (dedicated on October 27 of that year), which names the fourteen Billerica soldiers known to have given their lives in the war.
