D Street is a short street in Pinehurst running north from Sheridan Street, the former Shawsheen Street, between Boston Road and the Shawsheen River. It is the fourth of the lettered cross streets of the Pinehurst Annex, laid out on the "Pinehurst Annex, Plan of Land in Billerica belonging to E. E. Varnum," surveyed in September 1902 by O. F. Osgood and recorded on February 2, 1903 (Plan Book 19, Plan 42). On the plan A, B, C and D Streets open in turn from Shawsheen Street, with E Street, North Avenue and F Street beyond, all lined with narrow house lots. The letter names were the surveyor's and refer to no person or place.

The street remained a private way for three quarters of a century. In 1977 the selectmen asked town meeting to accept D Street with Maybury, Pershing and Lombard Streets and other ways, but after the Street Acceptance Committee reported and it was found that no plans were on file with the town clerk, the article was lost. At the annual town meeting of 1978 a motion was made to accept the laying out of "D" Street "from North Avenue to Shawsheen Street in accordance with a plan on file with the Town Clerk a way 30 ft. wide and 410 ft. long"; it was amended "to accept a distance of 350 ft. from Shawsheen St.," and the amended motion was voted. The same year the street was graded and hot topped with bituminous concrete. D Street was not on the official town map of 1831 and was not among the roads accepted in 2016.
