Dorchester Street
Dorchester Street is a street of Shawsheen Pines, in the southeast corner of Billerica at the Wilmington line, and only its first 240 feet or so are in Billerica. It was laid out on "Shawsheen Pines, Billerica - Wilmington - Mass.," a plan drawn in April 1927 by Henry F. Bryant & Son, surveyors, of Brookline, for the L. C. Morang Co., owners and developers (Plan Book 50, Plan 61). The plan crossed the town line and named its cross streets in alphabetical order, from Arlington, Berkeley and Beverly through Columbia, Dorchester, Edgeworth and Fairview to Newbury, between First to Sixth Avenues running parallel to the Shawsheen River. Dorchester Street, between Blocks 18 and 19, holds the D place in that series; no other reason for the name is recorded.
The street leaves Alexander Road a short distance northeast of Edgeworth Street and runs northwest about 2,380 feet toward the river. The town line crosses it about 240 feet from Alexander Road, and the rest of it, with the houses on it, is in Wilmington and carries Wilmington addresses: a deed of 2001 describes lots in Block 19 between Dorchester and Edgeworth Streets, numbered on Dorchester Street, Wilmington, as "land in Wilmington and Billerica." No house in Billerica is numbered on Dorchester Street, and no Billerica town record of its acceptance or improvement was found.
