Address 377 Boston Rd

Built 1838

Samuel Foster settled the site north of this one about 1800. His son Dudley married in 1835 and had this house built, very likely by Edward Mansfield. The recessed doorway is characteristic of Mansfield's buildings in Billerica. He later went on to marry Dudley's sister.

After Dudley's father died, he moved back into his childhood home. This house remained in the family, but there is no record of occupancy.

Dudley's adopted great-niece, Lucy Bryant, eventually took over the house with her husband Forrest Foster Collier in 1903. Around 1915, they added an extra bay north of the front door, which served as a law office.

About 1960, Dr. and Mrs. Giles purchased the home from the Colliers when Mr. Collier retired to Florida. The Giles added an office wing to the north side of the building.
