Address 1 Cummings St
MACRIS ID BIL.10
Built 1850

This site was part of an early grant to Rev. Samuel Whiting in 1658. This large house fills the space at the south end of the Common, across Cummings St. Its significance historically in town is that it provided a home for the married children of two Billerica families of this time. Many other homes were built about this time along Concord Rd. Often, new homes were built on land belonging to their parents. In this case, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dickinson had grown up in Billerica. He was the son of Frederic Dickinson and Mary Richardson, whose homes were south of the Common on Boston Road. This house site was taken from Colonel Francis Richardson's land, Mr. Dickinson's maternal grandfather.
