The Equinix BO2 data center at 41 Alexander Road in East Billerica is a concrete panel building of about 108,000 square feet on a lot of almost seventeen acres, built about 2000 for MCI WorldCom and since 2017 part of the Equinix network of colocation centers, where companies rent space, power and network connections for their own servers.

The land was part of the farms of the Jonas Alexander family on the road that took their name, sold by Mary C. Alexander in 1927 to the L. C. Morang Company and laid out that year as Shawsheen Pines, a grid of small house lots with streets that were never built. The unsold land passed through foreclosures and dealers to Joseph M. Linsey, who held it from 1954 to 1981, and then to Alexander Realty Trust and Alexander Realty Trust III, Caporale family trusts that sold it off in lots in the 1980s, reserving their rights in the paper streets of the 1927 plan.

Antico Development Company of Waltham bought three pieces from Alexander Realty Trust III in 1986: Lot 3B of 8.52 acres in February for $482,293, Lot 4B of nine acres along the paper Jefferson Street in July for $350,000, and 6.26 more acres in August for $269,180. Its surveyor Ralph J. Bibbo joined them on a series of re-division plans, and in 1987 cut the whole into Lot 7, where the company put up the building at 19 Alexander Road, and Lot 8 of 17.67 acres. In 1992 the Antico partners passed both lots to Anthony J. Antico and then to his company Charlesbank Estates, Inc., subject to a $2,000,000 bank mortgage.

In January 2000 Charlesbank Estates sold Lot 8 to MCI WorldCom Network Services for $1,881,630, and MCI WorldCom built the data center on it, finished about 2001. After Verizon bought MCI, the building was known locally as the Verizon facility; in 2014 the Planning Board approved a one-megawatt solar array of 3,000 panels on the front of the lot, which feeds the grid under a land lease. On May 1, 2017 Verizon moved the property through MCI Communications Services into Verizon Data Centers I LLC, and leased space back, as part of the sale of its data centers to Equinix; the company, renamed VDC I, LLC, released the property to Equinix, LLC in 2022. Equinix has since contested the building's assessment before the Appellate Tax Board. The building and land were assessed at $42 million in 2026.

Besides the operators MCI, Verizon, Terremark (2012 to 2023) and Equinix (from 2018), the personal property tax books list dozens of companies with equipment in the building, among them Akamai Technologies (2005 to 2015), Skillsoft (2005 to 2008), Network World (2009 to 2016), Patni Computer Systems (2011 to 2018), NTT Data (from 2017), RSA Security (2019 to 2022), Lionbridge Technologies and Aspect Software (from 2020) and Amazon Data Services (from 2023), as well as banks, software firms, internet services and engineering companies.
