Fish and Game Warden

The Fish Warden, later the Fish and Game Warden, enforced the state fish and game laws on Billerica's rivers, brooks and ponds. The town appropriated money for fish wardens from 1895 and paid two, Everett W. Livingston and Patrick Kearney, in 1895-1897; one warden was elected annually thereafter (the office is on the 1906 list of offices to be filled at the annual town election). The Fish Warden appears in the printed list of town officers from 1909 to 1918. After a gap the town again appropriated a salary for a Fish and Game Warden from 1926, and Arthur R. Hallenborg, later chairman of the Select Board, held the post for fifteen years until he resigned at the end of 1943, after which it no longer appears among the town officers.
