Frederick S. Clark was the son-in-law of Thomas Talbot, the mill owner. Clark became the president of the mill and maintained the post for a long time. It was called "The Red Gable" because of its color and style. While it was their estate, it had:

  • a three-car garage
  • a barn
  • an ice-house
  • a toolhouse
  • a coachman's cottage
  • a tennis court

In 1868, Eliza Rogers sold 4 acres of land, without buildings, to George B. Thayer. By the 1875 map, there was a building at the location and still shown as "Thayer", although it appears George B. Thayer had sold to the Talbots in late 1874 per deed records. On both that map and the 1887 engraving of North Billerica, a much smaller house appears. Between 1887 and 1889, Clark enlarged the house to its largest dimensions.

Frederick Clark died in 1929. By 1938, it was the Farnan Private Hospital for the Aged. That year, it suffered a catastrophic fire in the aftermath of the Hurricane of 1938. Merle Farnan managed to rebuild the hospital within a year.
