The George Brown Street bridge carries George Brown Street over the Lowell line of the railroad in East Billerica, near the Wilmington line. The Boston and Lowell Railroad, chartered in 1830 and opened in 1835, was surveyed by James F. Baldwin so that it crossed very few roads at grade; the town roads were carried over the cut on bridges instead. The bridge recorded by the state in 1980 was a single 32-foot span of wooden stringers with a plank deck on mortared stone abutments, with a gas main on its west side. It was transferred to the Commonwealth on June 8, 1976, listed as the "Brown Street-Salem Street" bridge.

The Massachusetts Highway Department began replacing it in 2002, and the present bridge, of prestressed concrete slabs, was finished in 2005. By Chapter 315 of the Acts of 2012, approved October 25, 2012, it was named the William G. Greene Jr. Bridge, for the town moderator and state representative.
