Henry Newbury
Died 1864-08-29 Fortress Monroe, VA

Henry Newbury was a Billerica soldier of the Civil War who died of wounds at Fortress Monroe, Virginia, in August 1864. He was mustered on November 22, 1861 into Company F of the 24th Massachusetts Infantry and died of his wounds there on August 29, 1864, after 33 months' service.

His name was not cut on the Soldiers' Monument on the Common when it was dedicated in 1873. Henry A. Hazen listed him in 1883 among four men, with Hiram E. Davis, Edward H. Persons and Calvin G. Tuttle, whose names "would properly have been inscribed with their comrades' upon the monument", and the annual town meeting of 1921 voted under Article 10 to place the four names on the monument and raised twenty dollars for the purpose.
