Address 6 Cummings St

Built 1850

As roads improved in town and busy coach schedules passed through Billerica, the need for wheel repairs and new wheels brought about the possibility for a wheelwright to establish a business. This business was carried on in the shed of the J. Wright House. A brick chimney exists in it today as one of its main supports. Mr. Wright probably built the house before 1858, as it appears in an engraving of this date. Mrs. Cyril Locke mentions an old elm tree in front of the house (now gone) that had an iron ring and chain to hold horses. This may be the site of Billerica's first Meeting House.
