James Haulton House

James Haulton House
James Haulton House
1887 - L.R. Burleigh
Address 10 Billerica Av
Built 1884

Anthony Jones owned a substantial amount of land in the mid-1800s, including the Tavern at the Corner. He died in 1882, and his widow Judith began selling off the family's holdings. James Haulton bought this tract of land along a right-of-way through Judith's lands, which would later be known as Memorial Street and then Billerica Avenue. James was born in Canada around 1836 and moved to Billerica as a child with his parents.

James Haulton built the house shortly after acquiring the land, and he sold it in 1890 to Fanny Murphy. Interestingly, the deed explicitly states that the property belongs to her and not her husband John Murphy.

Fanny Murphy sold to Dennis and Annie Dewire in 1899. Dennis was a firefighter and mover with a stable of large horses. The Dewires owned the house until 1943.
