Ensign Joseph Thompson was the town's first schoolmaster, starting in 1679 and taught at his home for more than 30 years. In the mid-1800s, Bernard Tufts owned the home and surrounding acreage. Tufts Lane bears his name now. In the early 1900s, Nathaniel Jones took ownership of the farm and the site became known as Jones Farm.
