This land was the former site of the District Number 6 Schoolhouse. Calvin Rogers sold the lot to Joseph D. Gould in 1876, and the house was built soon after. Joseph was the president of the Talbot Dye & Chemical Company. His wife was Elvira Rogers, daughter of Calvin, and she died in the house, after living to 103 years old.
