Nathaniel Tay built the first house here in 1656. He returned to Woburn in 1675, and his son occupied it for a time. After that, it was sold to Simon Crosby in 1691. It was later transferred to Simon's son-in-law John Blanchard.
John's son, Samuel (m. 1747) made significant renovations to the house, giving it the look it maintained for over two hundred years.
In the 1900s, Dr. Ring of Ring's Sanitarium in Arlington considered converting the farm into sanitarium and had plans drawn up by famed landscape architect, Warren H. Manning but the plan didn't come to fruition. After that, it was owned by Miss Rosalie Hayden, who was a prize-winning dairy farmer. For many years, it was known as the Hayden House.
In 1974, a fire caused significant damage. There was hope that it could be restored, but that wasn't to be. In 1976, new buildings replaced the old, but a sign still hangs marking the location of Kitchener Farm.
