Lakeside Road
Lakeside Road runs from the end of Meadowbank Road south along the east shore of Nuttings Lake to the corner where Austin Road and Crest Road meet.
The road is part of the cottage settlement on the east side of the lake that the street guide of 1930 to 1931 calls the "Lakeside section (east side Nuttings lake) off Lexington rd n ice houses," and its name describes its place along the lake shore. It was laid out between 1919, when the directory lists no streets on this side of the lake, and 1931, when the guide gives "Lakeside Road (east side Nuttings lake) from Meadowbank rd to Nuttings lake." Later town records call the development the "Lakeside subdivision," but its recorded plan and developer have not been found. The name has nothing to do with Lakeside Park, the 1911 lot plan of J. W. Wilbur at Long Pond on the Tewksbury line.
A special town meeting on July 17, 1950 accepted "the laying out of Maple Road, Crest Road, and Lakeside Road, as or for a public highway," and the town's index of accepted streets gives "Lakeside Rd. 7-17-50." In 1951 the Water Department extended its main 518 feet along Lakeside Road. The annual meeting of March 14, 1953 appropriated $1,200 to improve "Maple Road and Crest Road and Lakeside Street as town ways," and that year Lakeside Road was "graveled and asphalt penetrated for 500 feet." Sewers reached "the Lakeside Road Area" in 1975. Lakeside Road is not among the roads of the 1831 map accepted in 2016.
