Variety store, later restaurant and cafe, at the corner of Boston Road and Grove Street in Pinehurst, at Maurice Newman's Store. Maurice P. Newman bought the corner lots of Riverbank Acres in 1914, and the directory lists his variety store there from 1925. It advertised in The Torch in June 1929 as "Ma Newman's Old Stand, Pinehurst," and the 1932 directory lists it as "Ma Newman's Store"; the name everyone knew it by, from Maurice Newman's own name. By 1940 it was Newman's Store under Nathaniel A. Newman, from 1944 Newman's, Inc., and later Newman's Cafe (also spelled Neuman's), with John B. Nicholson as proprietor. It advertised in the Howe High School yearbooks from 1940 to 1951 and the Warrior yearbooks from 1960 to 1969. The corporation sold the corner in 1988, and the cafe closed in 1997; the building was taken down the next year.
