Martin's Block

Martin's Block
Martin's Block
Circa 1973 by MACRIS
Address 405 Boston Rd
MACRIS ID BIL.71
Built 1875
Demolished 1987

The building appears on 1875 and 1889 maps as "cider mill" and photographs in the 1880s make it clear that this is the same building. Since the abutters were Dickinson to the north, who had married Richardson, and Richardson, his brother-in-law and storekeeper, one assumes that this was a Dickinson enterprise.

Around the turn of the 20th century, the building was converted into a store and apartment block by one of the Kings. The brave fire station was crowded in on the south side of the same lot. Since the block was acquired by the Martin family, the stores have disappeared an, in complete conversion to apartment units, the building burst its seams.

In 1987, the building was torn down, and a more modern condo complex was built in its place.
