Doyle Avenue Martin Drive Ox Road |
The Middlesex Subdivision is a 1950s neighborhood in South Billerica on Ox Road, Doyle Avenue and Martin Drive, between Lexington Road and School Lane east of Nuttings Lake. Fred A. Joyce, surveyor, of Belmont drew the "Middlesex Subdivision, Billerica, Mass." in five sheets on July 21, 1954, for B and G Realty Trust of Arlington, and the planning board approved it in September 1954 (Plan Book 84, Plan 155). The lots ran from about 15,000 to 21,000 square feet, much larger than the cottage lots of the lake colonies nearby. Sheet I shows Ox Road curving from School Lane to a turnaround, with Doyle Avenue and a short Gordon Terrace reaching south toward Lexington Road, and land of Billerica Homes, Inc. on the north. A few houses on Ox Road are older than the plan, from 1948 and 1949; most of the neighborhood was built between 1953 and 1957.
