The Nathaniel Daniels House was the farmhouse of a farm of about sixty-five acres on the west side of the road from Boston to Lowell (now Boston Road) at the corner of the cross road to the Lexington Road (now Wyman Road), the land that later became the Mason farm and then the Griggs Farm. On the 1852 Walling map the house is marked "N. Daniels."

Nathaniel Daniels bought the farm from Samuel D. Ames, as a later deed recites. He does not appear in the 1850 census of Billerica, so he probably came out from Boston about 1851. He was a man of some property: when he died, besides the Billerica farm, he owned a house at 76 Leverett Street in Boston, a house at 7 Maverick Street in East Boston and a place in Nunda, New York. He died without a will in the spring of 1853, leaving his widow Hannah and eight children, three of them minors. His neighbors Dudley Foster, George Proctor and Haslet Mackay appraised the estate on June 4, 1853. They valued "the Homestead Farm of said deceased situate in said Billerica containing about 65 acres" at $3,300, and listed the furniture of three chambers, a parlor, a sitting room, a lower bedroom and a kitchen, a carriage, a buggy chaise, a sleigh, carpenter's tools, lumber and shingles, casks of vinegar and one cow.

The farm passed to the widow and children. In June 1854 the probate court licensed Edwin T. Daniels, guardian of his younger sister Hannah E. Daniels, to sell her share of "a certain farm situated in said Billerica consisting of mowing, tillage, pasturing and woodland and containing about sixty five acres and being the same occupied by said Nathl at the time of his decease," because the other heirs were "about to sell their interest." On April 7, 1855 the Daniels heirs sold the farm to Robert Burrows.

Burrows sold it on November 9, 1858, as "my Homestead farm," sixty-four acres "with the buildings thereon," to David L. Mason, a Boston police officer, and the house remained the Mason family's farmhouse for more than fifty years. Frederick L. Mason registered the farm in the Land Court in 1912, and after his death it passed in 1914 to his widow, Mary A. Mason. The old farmhouse was gone by 1919, and the farm buildings that stand on the land today date from about 1920.
