Ned Simonds House
While there was a house here prior to 1831, the current structure is more likely circa 1890.
Andrew Spaulding of Chelmsford married Hannah Jefts, daughter of Henry the original settler. Their son, Benoni (1691-1752), inherited all the Jefts holdings centered on "Patch Meadow" and settled there about 1715. At the time of his death, Benoni divided about 200 acres between two sons.
This property was part of Asa Spaulding's (1729-1815) share, and then inherited by his son, Thomas (1770-1849). Thomas Spaulding's daughter, Martha, married David Simonds, originally of Alexandria, NH and later Carlisle.
In 1849, the property was deed to Thomas Simonds, David and Martha's son. Thomas had just married his cousin, another Martha Spaulding. Thomas Spaulding is shown living on the property on the 1853 map, presumably in an older house.
Thomas's son Ned married Fanny G. Brann in 1891 and perhaps built this house at that time, owing to its Victorian characteristics. Their son Howard lived in the house and died in 1956. He was likely the last Spaulding descendant still living on ancestral Spaulding land.
