In 1873, Paul Hill tore down the original house and built this French Mansard Roof house. The double sloped roof gives greater utility to the third floor. It was named "The Walnuts" from the two tremendous black walnut trees in the back yard. Mr. Hill was born in Billerica in 1815. Active in building railroads, he was the engineer of the Hoosac Tunnel. With its many out buildings and surrounding grounds, this striking house, now unoccupied, is an architecturally superior Mansard Roof example.

In 1987, the house was moved to its present location behind Collins Bowladrome.
