Although the general perception is that the Railroad House was built as a residence for the station agent, this was not the case in East Billerica. Station agents were frequently reassigned and the house was designed to serve as a temporary residence. Some of the earlier residents of the house included members of the Brabant family. Except for George Henry Brabant and Mary Curtis all were section hands employed by the Boston and Lowell Railroad.

Alfred Franz and his wife, Margaret occupied the Railroad House from 1927-1944 where he served as the caretaker of the East Billerica Depot until it was demolished about 1945.
