Red Pine Grille (1972 - 1985)
Larkin Associates, Inc. (1974 - 1985) Mr. Tipp's (1985 - 1993) Copperfield's (1995 - 2000) Dick Doherty's Comedy Escape (1995 - 2000) |

The Red Pine Grille building stood on Lot 23A of the Treble Cove Industrial Park, at the corner of Republic Road and Treble Cove Road beside Route 3, from 1972 to 2012. Red Pine Grille, Inc., long established at Nutting's Lake on the Middlesex Turnpike, bought the lot in May 1972 for $60,000 and built the restaurant with a $135,000 bank loan the same year. In 1974 it advertised lobster and sirloin dinners with "dancing to Lancer Trio" (The Lowell Sun, March 13, 1974). The 1982 "Plan of Land in Billerica" (Plan Book 137, Plan 150) shows it as the "Existing Building" on Lot 23A, owned by Red Pine Grille Inc.
The company sold the building in 1985. After a 1991 foreclosure auction it was renovated in 1993-1994 and became Copperfield's, a nightclub where Dick Doherty's Comedy Escape held its grand opening on December 29 and 30, 1995. The building was later vacant, and in 2012 the Board of Appeals approved plans to "raze the restaurant building" for the Mobil station and Dunkin' that opened in 2013. The plan of 1982 shows the restaurant set at an angle in the middle of the lot.
