Robert L. Fisk
Robert L. Fisk
Robert Leland Fisk, a corporal in the aviation service of the Army, was one of the five Billerica men who died in the service in the First World War. He graduated from Howe High School in 1913, when the list of graduates printed his name Robert L. Fiske. The town's 1918 roll of its men in the service lists him as "Corporal, Aviation Dept." and marks him with a star as "Gone Home". He was buried in Billerica on October 7, 1918, at the age of 22; the town clerk entered the burial among those of persons who were not residents of the town at their death.
His full name, Robert Leland Fisk, is on Billerica's memorial to its dead of the two world wars, the World War Memorials at the south end of the Town Common: first a bronze plaque on a fieldstone boulder, set up about 1948, and since 2004 a larger granite memorial that lists the five men of the First World War and the twenty-nine of the Second.
