This was the "greater" of the two towered homes on Andover Road. Rufus K. Underhill was born in Chester, NH in 1819 and established the Underhill Edged Tool Co. in Nashua. He first purchased real estate in Billerica in 1861, but bought twelve more acres in 1874, where this house still stands. It exemplifies one sort of relatively ostentatious houses built at this time by successful persons "retiring" or returning to Billerica after building their fortunes elsewhere.
