Shawsheen Valley Regional Vocational School Committee

Billerica is one of the member towns (with Bedford, Burlington, Tewksbury and Wilmington) of the Shawsheen Valley Regional Vocational Technical School District, whose regional school committee governs Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica, opened in 1970. The 1963 town meeting created a Regional Vocational School District Planning Committee; on November 26, 1965 the Moderator appointed Billerica's first two members of the district committee, and from 1966 Billerica's two members have been elected by the town to staggered three-year terms (vacancies filled by appointment). Kenneth L. Buffum served for about fifty years, from 1967 until his death in 2019. The town's own school board is the School Committee.
