Short Road is a short cross street in the Nutting Lake section, about 230 feet long, running from Columbia Road east to Arey Street. It comes from the first plan of Nuttings Lake Park, "Plan A," drawn in April 1910 by C. A. Thayer, engineer, of Providence, Rhode Island, and recorded May 31, 1910 (Plan Book 27, Plan 57), where Short Road crosses Columbia, Washington and Thayer Roads; the name evidently describes it as the short cross road of the plan. The directory of 1931 describes it as running "from Thayer rd to Columbia rd," Thayer Road being the old name of Arey Street.

Much of the land of Plan A was never built on, and in 1975 the town bought many of its lots on Thayer, Washington and Columbia Roads for conservation. The town engineers prepared a plan in 1974 for "the extension of Short Road."

In the fall of 2001 the town was asked to accept "Short Rd Columbia Rd to Arey St," 230 feet, as a public way, but that article was dismissed, and no acceptance of Short Road has been found. It is not one of the roads of the 1831 map accepted in 2016.
