Baldwin Road Lois Lane Putney Circle |
Sugar Maple Estates is a neighborhood in North Billerica on the north side of Baldwin Road, around Putney Circle and Lois Lane. It began with the "Putney Lane Subdivision," surveyed for Roger Toothaker by James B. Monahan, registered land surveyor, in June 1957, approved by the Planning Board on September 5, 1957 and recorded on January 21, 1958 (Plan Book 89, Plan 151). It laid out Putney Lane north from Baldwin Road through land of Arthur Blood and Sullivan, with lots of 30,000 to 60,000 square feet. Kal-H Realty Corp. later owned part of it; a plan drawn for that company by Monahan on January 25, 1962 (Plan Book 96, Plan 36B) re-divided two lots on Putney Lane.
The "Definitive Plan of Sugar Maple Estates," owned by Elm Realty Trust and drawn by Emmons & Fleming, Inc., engineers and surveyors, of Billerica, in February 1964, was approved on March 9, 1964 and recorded on April 17, 1964 in two sheets (Plan Book 99, Plan 172). It extended Putney Lane into the loop of Putney Circle and added Lois Lane, in lots of about 30,000 square feet. The houses date from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.
