At the end of the 19th century, the Talbot Mills constructed this building as a library and post office to serve North Billerica. After the Mills sold off the property, the library portion closed down, despite attempts to link it with the Bennett Public Library. The building eventually fell into disrepair with the new proprietors refusing to maintain it. The building was torn down, and a much smaller brick building was built on the property to continue serving as a post office.
