In 1914, Richard Faulkner decided to retire from management of the Faulkner Mills and sell his family home. The homestead was divided into five lots. Thomas F. Lyons, the Center postmaster snatched up this lot and moved the post office from down the street. The post office remained at this location until the 1960s, when a new postmaster moved to current building at 460 Boston Rd.

For many years, a cobbler shop (Oscar's) occupied a corrugated metal building in the lot north of this building. Local legend is that it was built in the middle of the night and used squatter's rights to stay here. Upon Oscar's death, T.F. Lyons' daughters were able to clear the title and double the footprint of the building. Later, a second storey was put on that addition.
