Thomas Rogers House

Thomas Rogers House
Thomas Rogers House
1887 - L.R. Burleigh
Address 52 Mt. Pleasant St
Built 1780
Demolished 1930

This house is possibly older and sits on land owned by John Rogers Jr prior to his death in 1736. The deed record is sparse, but it made its way into Thomas Rogers's hands before 1781. In 1784, Thomas sold the land with buildings to Isaac Kidder. Isaac was expanding his holdings as he had been granted the southern portion of his father's land in 1781 which did not contain the house.

Isaac Kidder only had the house for 5 years before selling it back into the Rogers family in 1789. It remained in the Rogers family until 1866, when it was purchased by George Perkins Elliott, a Massachusetts State Senator.

George P. Elliott was listed on the 1875 map, but by 1889, it was in Allen Bottomley's possession. Bottomley subdivided the land in 1911, setting the barn off into its own house lot, and created several more smaller lots along High Street.

Bottomley died in 1913, and his heirs sold the place to Forrest Todd in 1921. Dates are given variously of 1925 and 1932, but certainly while in Todd's hands, the house was razed and replaced with the one standing there today. Todd sold in 1936 to Solomon Newton.
