The "cottage house" sits on land which was owned by Johnson in 1877, hence it was presumably Johnson's second purchase from the widow Judith Wilson. She had bought it from John Baldwin in 1865, hence it is very likely the house shown as Col. J. Baldwin on the 1853 map. His title has not been found, but in 1866 when he bought the last next east, "widow Marth Baldwin" is shown here as the abutter. There is no evidence of a chimney in the present house, suggesting that it may have been built originally as a shop or other out-building.
