William Stickney was a son of Deacon William Stickney, the town clerk and leading man of Billerica in the Revolution, and his first wife Anna (Whiting) Stickney. He was born in Billerica on April 3, 1743. On March 10, 1768 he married Abigail Walker, daughter of Robert Walker.
Hazen records that he was at Bunker Hill and served later in Rhode Island, and that after his father's death in 1781 he declined the office of deacon. In July 1783 he and Abigail sold Isaac Sprake seventeen acres of woodland west of the Concord River in the third range of lots, bounded east by "the thirds of Hannah Stickney," the dower of his stepmother. In 1784 the family moved to Townshend, Vermont.
Their children were William (1768), who lived in Grafton, Vermont, had ten children and died in 1860; Abigail (1770), who married Abijah Beard; Elizabeth (1772), who married John Eastman and died in 1856; Anna (1774), who married David Walker; Sarah (1776), who married Francis Blanchard; John (1778), who lived in Plymouth, Vermont, and died in 1846; Benjamin (1780), who lived in Grafton and died in Burton, Ohio, in 1824; Isaac (1782), who died in Boston in 1809; Polly (1784), who married George W. Walker; Silence (1786), who married Jared Farmer; and Josiah (1789), who became a banker in Boston, a director of the Western, Boston and Albany, and Passumpsic railroads, and president of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. Abigail died on April 17, 1818, and William died at Townshend on October 26, 1831.

This is the woodland later called "the Stickney lot", not the house lot, which the earlier article took it to be.
