Georgiana Road is a dead-end street running west from Salem Road in East Billerica, on land that belonged to Forrest F. Collier, a lawyer and officer of the Billerica Trust Company. Merrill A. Brown, civil engineer of Carlisle, drew a "Plan of Land in Billerica, Mass., owned by Forrest F. Collier" on September 20, 1947, dividing the Collier frontage on Salem Road into three long lots running back to Trout Brook; it was recorded on December 10, 1951 (Plan Book 81, Plan 110). Brown's plan of August 1949, recorded on August 31, 1949 (Plan Book 76, Plan 32, sheet B), cut lots 1A through 1F, of 15,000 to 28,500 square feet, along a private way on the north side of lot 2. That private way is Georgiana Road.
The first houses were built about 1950. The 1951 directory lists "Georgianna (EB), from Salem rd to dead end," with households already on it, and most of the other houses were built from the 1960s to the 1980s. The name is spelled both ways: the town reports and the assessors use Georgiana, while the directories, the high school yearbooks and some later town reports use Georgianna. Its origin has not been found.
At the annual town meeting session of April 22, 1975 the town voted under Article 14 "to accept the laying out of a part of Georgiana Road from Salem Road a distance of 500 feet, a way 40 feet wide." The Street Acceptance Committee had advised against acceptance unless $14,000 was raised, "as it needs some drainage, hot top and a plan," but the motion carried with 74 votes in favor. The rest of the road, beyond the first 500 feet, was not included in that acceptance.
