Riverbank Terrace

Riverbank Terrace is a neighborhood in Pinehurst on the west side of Boston Road, between Boston Road and the Shawsheen River at the Burlington line. The plan, "Riverbank Terrace, Billerica, Mass., May 1911," was drawn by C. A. Thayer, engineer, at 100 feet to an inch and recorded on August 17, 1911 (Plan Book 29, Plan 25). Boston Road appears on it as "Main Street," with a rail line drawn along it.

The plan laid out River Road and Washington Avenue along the river side, Hamilton Avenue and Wildwood Avenue parallel to them, Burlington Road and Manning Street from Main Street, and cross streets named Robin Road, Craine Street, Whitfield Avenue, Davis Street, Grant Street, Adelman Road, Harnden Road, Lawn Avenue, May Street and Short Street, in 26 numbered sections. Most lots were 25 feet wide, with larger lots along the river. On July 11, 1921 Robert B. Bellamy, civil engineer, of Dorchester redrew the river lots along River Road and Manning Street as a "Subdivision of Lots in Riverbank Terrace" (Plan Book 39, Plan 49, recorded November 1, 1921).

Hamilton Avenue, Burlington Road, Harnden Road, Adelman Road, Craine Street and Short Street keep their plan names; Riverbank Terrace runs on the line of River Road and Washington Avenue, Wildcrest Avenue on that of Wildwood Avenue, and Whitefield Avenue on that of Whitfield Avenue. Many of the plan streets were built only decades later; Adelman Road dates from the 1960s and Craine Street from the 1980s.
