Rachel F. Mallett

Rachel F. Mallett was a Billerica Town Meeting member from 1969 to 2001 and for twelve years a member of the Finance Committee, much of that time as its secretary.

She was appointed to the Finance Committee by the Town Moderator in 1967 and served until 1979, as its secretary from 1973. At the annual town meetings of the 1970s she read the committee's corrections to the budget items, and at a session in May 1974 she explained to the meeting that the tax rate posted the previous Saturday had been in error and that the correct rate, through the Tuesday night's voting, was $188.21. She was chosen by the town meeting each year as a Surveyor of Wood and Lumber into the late 1980s, was a member of the Arts Council from 1980, and on March 23, 1981, was one of two assistant assessors appointed by the Board of Assessors.

Within the Town Meeting she was clerk of the Precinct 10 members through 1983 and their chairman from 1984 to 1986, and in 1988 she represented Precinct 7 on the Committee on Rules. She served on the Ombudsman Committee in the late 1980s and on the Council on Aging from 1988 to 1992.
