Robert W. Solomon
Born 1920-10-12 Billerica, Massachusetts

Robert Wesley Solomon, known as Wesley, a seaman in the Naval Reserve, was one of the twenty-nine Billerica men who died in the Second World War, and one of two brothers of the same family to die in it. He was born in Billerica on October 12, 1920, a son of Robert H. and Margaret A. Solomon, and his twin brother, David Stanley Solomon, was born the next day. The family lived on Salem Road in North Billerica, where his father was a carpenter. Wesley died in the service in 1942; his brother Albert H. Solomon was killed in action in the Army in 1944. The memorial gives his name as "Solomon, Robert W. USNR SMN".

In 1951 Town Meeting named the plot of land at the corner of Salem Road and Pollard Street, Solomon Brothers Square, "in honor of Wesley and Albert Solomon", and raised $50 for a marker to be put up by Memorial Day. The article had first asked to rename Brown's Corner, at Pollard Street and Boston Road, for the brothers, "who gave their lives in the service of their country in 1942 and 1944".

His name is on the World War Memorials at the south end of the Town Common, which the town first set up about 1948 as a bronze plaque on a fieldstone boulder and replaced in 2004 with a larger granite memorial listing the five Billerica men who died in the First World War and the twenty-nine who died in the Second.
