Albert H. Solomon

Albert H. Solomon, a private first class in the United States Army, was one of the twenty-nine Billerica men who died in the Second World War, and one of two brothers of the same family to die in it. He was a son of Robert H. Solomon, a carpenter, and Margaret A. Solomon, whose house was on Salem Road in North Billerica, and in 1941 and 1942 he was living there with his parents and his sisters Evelyn and Hazel. His brother Robert W. Solomon, known as Wesley, died in the Navy in 1942. Albert died in 1944, and the War Department's Honor List of Dead and Missing for Massachusetts, published after the war, lists him, with the Army serial number 31018915, as killed in action.

In 1951 Town Meeting named the plot of land at the corner of Salem Road and Pollard Street, Solomon Brothers Square, "in honor of Wesley and Albert Solomon", and raised $50 for a marker to be put up by Memorial Day. The article had first asked to rename Brown's Corner, at Pollard Street and Boston Road, for the brothers, "who gave their lives in the service of their country in 1942 and 1944".

His name is on the World War Memorials at the south end of the Town Common, which the town first set up in 1948 as a plaque on a large boulder and replaced in 2004 with a larger granite memorial listing the five Billerica men who died in the First World War and the twenty-nine who died in the Second.
