Joanne F. Gastonguay was a postmaster in Billerica for more than thirty years, in charge of the Pinehurst post office and then, for nearly a quarter of a century, of the post office at Nutting Lake. The Postal Service's records of postmasters show her first as officer in charge of the Nutting Lake office for a time in 1979, between the brief charge of Louise E. Riordan early that year and the appointment of Ralph N. Newman as postmaster in October.
In 1980 she was appointed postmaster at Pinehurst, following Alice F. Donovan, who had run the office since 1960, and a short period in which Jeannette Clare Fogarty was in charge. She remained at Pinehurst until 1988, when Stephanie L. Gagnon, later Stephanie L. Waldroup, was appointed in her place.
On February 27, 1988 she was appointed postmaster of Nutting Lake, after Anne E. Gaquin had served as officer in charge from November 1987, and she held the office until 2012, when Jimmy Yi took charge on July 31. Throughout her years the Pinehurst and Nutting Lake post offices were two of the public places where the town's warrants for town meetings and elections were posted.
