Dane Avenue Preston Street Railroad Street |
The Dane Subdivision is a small group of streets in North Billerica on the east side of Pollard Street, near its junction with Boston Road. Alden O. Dane, a Billerica farmer and tradesman who had been the town's road agent and a selectman, had a house lot plan made of "the Chase lot, so called," shortly after 1900, laying out Dane Avenue, Preston Street and Railroad Street. The first record of the plan is the warrant of the annual meeting of 1902, which asked $100 to build Preston Street "as shown on plans of Alden O. Dane of the Chase lot"; the town accepted Preston Street on March 24, 1902. On March 17, 1904 the selectmen laid out Railroad Street "upon the plan of said Dane," forty feet wide from Fordway Road, now Pollard Street, three hundred feet to Dane Avenue, and the town accepted it on March 28, 1904. The recorded copy of Dane's plan has not been found.
