The Hajjar Elementary School in North Billerica was the fourth school constructed in a five-year span in 1960s, after the Dutile, Kennedy, and Locke to accommodate the educational demands of the growing town. Construction began in the fall of 1968, but was plagued by strikes and delays. It opened for the 1970 school year, with over 1000 students in 31 classrooms. A formal dedication was made on October 18, 1970. It was named after Dr. Solomon Gunther Hajjar, who had been a school physician, alongside Dr. Orland S. Marshall from 1952 until his death in 1966.
