Howe School Teacher

Teacher at the Howe School in Billerica. From 1852 the Howe trustees ran the Howe School, founded under the bequest of Dr. Zadok Howe, as the town's high school in the Old Howe School building on Boston Road, with a principal and one assistant teacher, and from about 1904 two or three assistants. The town took over the school in 1914, and in 1916 the high school moved into the new Howe High School building, where it remained until the class of 1955 graduated and Billerica Memorial High School opened. After 1920 the old building reopened as an elementary school for the upper grades, listed as the Howe School or Old Howe School until about 1965 (see Howe Elementary School Principal).

This position lists the assistant teachers of the Howe School from 1852 and the faculty of Howe High School to 1955, including the physical education, household arts and guidance teachers shown with the high school faculty. Principals appear here only for years in which they taught before becoming principal. The town music and drawing supervisors and the teachers of the junior high grades in the same building are not included. For the elementary school after 1920 only selected teachers are listed.
