Martin Conway owned large tracts of land east of the Boston & Lowell Raildroad in North Billerica. He began subdividing this land in the mid-1880s, and placed a right-of-way to reach these subdivisions which would become Billerica Ave. James Barrington (1843-1904) and his brother Roger Barrington (1862-1941) came from England and bought two adjacent empty lots on the east side of Billerica Ave in 1886. The house is clearly identifiable by its south-facing bay windows on the 1887 drawing of North Billerica by L.R. Burleigh.
